Shuvani's own festival!
Sastimos! Welcome! Shuvani Festivále Historíque breathes life into medieval re-enactment. The Shuvani troupe of dancers, musicians, performers, craftsmen and artisans have been part of the Abbey Medieval Festival for 15 years. We now invite you to join us in our second annual living encampment at Old Petrie Town Historical Village on August 19 and 20th, 2017.
Enjoy the magic and mystery of the ancient nomads of the Spice Trail. Feel the beating rhythms of the drums. Smell the spices, savour the colours. Join in a village circle dance or participate in a drum workshop. Make a traditional peg doll, a magical putsi bag or a beaded necklace. If you dare, ask our palm reader to read your fortune. Or go home with a daring henna design. Learn to juggle or weave a basket. Watch the smithy at work or the Gypsy Cob horses on display.
This family-friendly event allows our visitors to spend quality time in specific areas that interest them, from small hands-on workshops in juggling, arts and crafts, singing, drums and of course dancing and more! To casually wander through our market stalls selling leatherworks, handmade baskets, jewellery and small mementos for the kids. Or to picnic on the village green while watching the Shuvani dancers and our guest artists perform. We are especially excited that our friends from Prima Spada School of Fence will be joining us again this year, demonstrating their lively and breathtaking fencing displays. And with any luck, you may just spot our enchanting pixie!
Family friendly; farm animals, arts and crafts, workshops and street theatre in addition to surprise re-enactment guests and performers joining us throughout the weekend. Plenty of food vendors on site this year and extra special night performances Saturday evening around the fire. Old Petrie Town’s weekend markets, historical village and steam engine displays will also be running as usual.
A magical weekend for only $5 entry per person per day: join us Saturday 10 am until 6pm. Sunday 9 am until 3 pm. (Small charges for workshops, generally $2, and some will require bookings in advance.)
